Helping street and orphan children in the slum areas of Mumbai

They are from all ages, from babies and toddlers, to oldren children and teenagers. Some do not have parents, others come for the day to catch up on their education and interact with other children, or quite simply to be fed. As you can see from the photos, the extremely caring staff and volunteers have an uphill battle: children are often unstimulated and unresponsive. I found this the hardest part of the visit.

At the same time, the wonderful staff were keen on psychological training and input. I have described our re-established centre Care-Sel in the previuos blog. How much staff and children would benefit from attachment-based training and approach.

We would really value your views from other experiences in similar circumstances or, for example, in orphanages.
