WACIT North America: School-based service integration for disadvantaged youth in Chicago

The school health centres were impressive, but they also needed a receptive and seamless school ethos to be effective.

This high school was certainly offering a lot more than education to a very disadvantaged youth group, particularly pregnant girls.

There were Head Start input, reproductive health and breast feeding advice, basic food provision if needed, but also high educational aspirations! This service integration is the only – and most cost effective – model of outreaching mental health to deprived and often disaffected communities.
