Vision, dreams and pragmatism blend nicely at Kids Haven in South Africa

Listening to the history and stages of the development of this NGO by Moira, its inspirational founder; then witnessing its current state, meeting the team and children, and visiting its facilities seemed incongruous at first sight – too good to be true!

Yet a closer listening at the passion and commitment, regular adjustments to harsh realities, and attention to each detail in relation to its strategy made sense. Every child’s needs in the care homes or in the community are individually known as if they are the only one they care for. There is use for each piece of donation, from the children to the charity’s shops. Each square metre of space has a child-driven function.

Crucially their psychosocial needs were addressed along the spectrum from daily activities to therapy. Getting every child off the streets and keeping them off them is a battle. But something really special in this team turns vision into reality!
