This was a truly grassroot NGO born from a slum community, with a family wanting to give something back, and a shrewd social enterprise approach.
What struck me was the theme of empowering rather than giving. Also the links with statutory departments and local businesses to secure employment (or rather providing skills training and help in CV writing for young people and adults to seek employment themselves).
Hosting positive parenting classes by the larger and specialist NGO Kids Haven was further proof of community engagement. The reality remains harsh, with this family of 14 going up to 17 next week with the forthcoming birth of triplets to somehow live in one room, but their local charity had given them some hope too.
